Fund Raising Fair
Despite the fund-raising efforts described below, an
infants school was never built in Alexandra Street.
However, the Baptists did build a Mission Room, now
better known as the Guiding Centre

Following the annual harvest thanksgiving services at the Baptist Chapel on Sunday, a fancy fair was held in the Assembly-room on Monday afternoon, when a number of articles left from last year's bazaar were offered for sale – the object being the purchase of a site of land in Alexander Street for an infant school. A balance of £25 remains in the school from last year's Jubilee Fund, and it was hoped to increase this to £50 as result of this special effort.

Stalls, consisting of fancy goods, groceries, etc, garden and farm produce, and refreshments, were located in various portions of the room, being presided over by a number of ladies and young people of the congregation. Tea was provided during the afternoon at the Manse, and the Midland Orchestral Band, conducted by Mr M A Child, of Wellingborough, discoursed an excellent selection of music.
