George Neville received the living of Burton Latimer from his relative John Nevell, Lord de Latymer who was the patron. It is doubtful that George Neville spent any time in Burton Latimer as he also had livings in Yorkshire, Northumberland and Westmorland and was Archdeacon of Carlisle in 1558. During his incumbency the Register Roll, which records baptisms, marriages and burials and begins in 1538, was copied in to books starting in 1558. It is interesting to note that in 1559 there are many burials recorded, probably due to some kind of epidemic, although no reason is given in the register. From 1558 - 1600 the registers are signed by Robert Parsons, Minister, who was also the schoolmaster.
