Man’s Body Found

Mystery today surrounds the discovery of a man's body in a field near Burton Latimer.

The body was found by a man who was walking his dog in an isolated field near the town's A6 bypass at about 3.45 pm yesterday. [Transcriber’s Note: This was at the end of Bird Street]

Police - who believe the body has been in the field for up to two months - have described the man as white, thin, about 5ft 6in, with short, light-brown hair.

A team of officers was making a thorough search of the area today and carrying out door-to-door inquiries. A post mortem examination was due to be held to find out how he died.

A police spokesman said: "We do not have any missing people on our files who match the description of this man.

"We are appealing for the public to call us with any information which may help find out who he is.

"If people know of someone who has not been around for several weeks and who fits this description we are asking them to contact us."

A woman, who asked not to be named, spoke to the man who found the body minutes after the discovery.

She said: "He was very distressed.

"He said he had just seen a body and didn't know if it was a man or woman. "It's just awful."
