Will of Robert Chapman

11 May 1635


In the name of God Amen. I Robert Chapman senior of Burton Latimer in the County of Northampton Husbandman doe ordaine & make this my last will and testament in manner and forme following vizt, Imprimis I give and bequeath my soule unto god my Creator and redeemer and my body to be buryed in the Church yard of Burton Latimer aforesaid. And as for the worldlye estates and goods which god hath blessed me with all I bequeath as follows.

Item: I give unto my eldest sonne Robert Chapman the summe of one shilling of lawfull money of England to be paid unto him within a month after my decease if no demand (therefore?) Item: I give unto my second sonne Richard Chapman the summe of five shillings of lawfull money of England to be paid unto him within atwelve month after my decease.

Item: I give unto my youngest sonne Henry Chapman the summe of five shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto him within atwelve moneth of my decease.

Item: I give unto my sonne Roberts foure children the summe of *** pence apiece And for and concerning the rest of my goods and chattels soe bequeathed as aforesaid I give unto my dearly beloved wife Mary Chapman of which my debts and legacies aforesaid being there out first paid I make and constitute her my full and sole executrix In witness whereof I have here unto sett my hand and seale the nynth day of this instant Aprill 1635. Sealed and delivered in the presence of us: Tho: Bird, George Plowright, Thomas Wallis, John Michell. Signed: Rob Chapman sen.

Memoranda: that I the foresaid Robert Chapman finding my selfe to be (poisined?) and sicke with lameness (have?) if I (may?) live to spend that little monies which I have. And allsoe better considered my estate to be lesse and my debtes more than I (contenied?) at the making of this will I therefore (**trented?) that the two severall words pounds in the xiiij and xvij lines of this will above mentioned should be made shillings as they now are soe that my mind and will is that my said sonnes Richard and Henry then shall have noe more than five shillings apiece to be paid as aforesaid not altering any other parte change or anything in the will aforesaid. In wittnes whereof I the said Robert Chapman have hereto sett my hand & seale this 11 day of May 1635.
