The Will of Sarah Palmer, Widow
1788
The first few lines of Sarah Palmer's will. The main benificiery Rev. William Fillbridge Arnold died at the
age of 30 in 1790 on the eve of his marriage. Another beneficiary Eliza Dopping Arnold gave £100
to the Rector and Churchwardens of Burton Latimer for the relief of the poor through her will in 1856

In the Name of God Amen. Sarah Palmer Widow of Burton Latimer in the County of Northampton being sound in Mind Memory and Understanding do make this my last Will and Testament. In the first place I constitute and appoint my Nephew William ffillbridge Arnold of Mowsly in the County of Leicester Clerk my Sole Executor Administrator and assign, to whom I give and devise all my Estate in Burton Latimer consisting of Houses barns and Gardens which I purchased of my said Nephew and all other my real Estate that I may be possessed of at the time of my decease, to him his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever all which Estate whatsoever and wheresoever I hereby enable my said Nephew to sell. Secondly I give to my Nephew William Fillbridge Arnold all my Personal Estate whether Money due upon Bonds, Notes or from Mr Palmers Will and likewise all my property in the ffunds being in the three per cent consolidated annuities and all my Goods and Chattels of every kind Thirdly I subject the before mentioned Estates the payment of my Debts ffourthly I give to the poor of Burton Latimer the Sum of ffive pounds to be paid within twelve months after my decease. Item: I give to Mary Driver the sum of one Guinea. I desire my executor to give to Ann R....... the younger of Stilton half my wearing apparel Item I will and design that after all my Debts and Legacies are paid and all my Estates Real and Personal are turned into money that the same be divided into two equal parts one half of which I give to my said Nephew William ffilbridge Arnold and the other half I give to Eliza Dopping Arnold daughter to my Nephew Joseph Arnold Surgeon of Lambeth in Surry. Item I will and desire that the half part bequeathed to Eliza Dopping Arnold be laid out in her Name and for her Sole use in such of the public ffields as my Executor William ffillbridge Arnold shall think proper & that such purchase shall be deemed a full discharge for the said half part to my said Executor Septr 24th 1788 Sarah Palmer Signed Sealed and Delivered in presence of us there Joseph Sudborough – Thomas Sudborough – Elizabeth Sudborough
This Will was proved at London the nineteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eightynine before the Worshipful George Harris Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Sir William Wynne Knight also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of the Reverend William ffillbridge Arnold Clerk the Nephew of the deceased and Sole Executor named in the said will to whom Administration was granted of all singular the Goods Chattels and Creditsof the said deceased having been first sworn duly to administer.
