The dates for the licensees have been gleaned from the local census returns, directories, innkeepers’ recognizances, court cases and other recorded events. They are ordered but not yet complete. Where names appear consecutively against dates supplied by these records it has been assumed that the licences were held by the same people during the intervening years.
