PITFIELD IS THE STAR AS HE CLAIMS TWO COUNTY TITLES Adam Pitfield claimed two titles at the County Men’s and some Mixed Finals that were held at Thrapston. The Burton Latimer Town bowler won the Junior Singles for the second successive year after he edged out Alistair Melvile (Corby Seagrave House) 21-20 in an excellent match which went to 25 ends. Melville held the upper hand for long periods and looked to be on course for the title when he led 19-14 after 20 ends. But Pitfield picked up four shots and then a single to level things up and things were still all-square after they exchanged shots over the next two ends. Then, in what proved to be the final end, Pitfield held shot with Melville having one bowl left but he was unable to get the shot himself as Pitfield took the crown again. Pitfield was also involved in another close final as he linked up with Phil Exley and Paul Broderick in the Triples. At 12-12, they went into a last-end shoot out with defending champions Ashley Linnell, Darren Childs and Jamie Walker (Northampton West End) and Broderick was the hero as he rested out Childs’ shot bowl to clinch the title for his Burton rink. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS PITFIELD IS EDGED OUT IN THE MEN’S JUNIOR SINGLES
Pitfield enjoyed a comfortable 21-9 success over James Staples (Shires BC) in his opening match and that set up a clash with Michael Gomme (Gerrards Cross BC). It proved to be a terrific game and, after it had been level throughout, Pitfield took a three-shot lead at 17-14, only for him to lose the next two ends to be 18-17 adrift. Pitfield picked up two shots on the 21st end but Gomme played superbly in the next two ends to snatch a 21-19 success. |
