Brandon Strand and Ellis Panter carved their names into England boxing's roll of honour as Burton Park ABC produced two more home grown champions last weekend.

Strand
became the up-and-coming club's ninth champion when he took on Repton's Luke Hildon in the 35.5 kg Schoolboy Championship.

Strand, who has three brothers - Sam, Harvey and Ollie - at the club, knew he had a big job to do with Repton being a very well known club in the boxing community.

The first round saw Strand setting the pace of the bout, not giving Hildon time to think and putting him on the back foot with a minimum of two or three-punch combinations together. Hildon responded with counters but Strand was on him again, taking control of the centre of the ring.

The second saw Strand up his work rate and really taking it to Hildon.

The third was much the same with Strand leading off with flurries and with Hildon struggling to find his range, the Burton boxer connected with good scoring punches with every advance.

Strand was given a unanimous decision by the judges, winning himself a pair of golden gloves for his work and dedication.

Panter then took the club's tally of National Championship titles to a perfect 10 in only six years when he got the better of Danny Searle from Guildford City Boxing Club in the 38.5 kg category.

Searle laid down the gauntlet early as he stood his ground and pressed forward throwing straight shots down the middle.

Some connected by Panter soon found his range, making his opponent miss and coming back with strong counters that certainly caught the judges' eye and made Searle think before he lunged too far forward due to the power of the Burton Park boxer.

The second saw Searle rally behind straight punches and he scored better with Panter's punches going around the outside, which were harder to score from.

Both boxers knew it was there for the taking but Panter came out and boxed out of his skin to only be hit clean with a couple of clean punches in the last.

The Burton Park boxer won by a unanimous decision to also claim a pair of golden gloves.

Head coach Wayne Sharp said: "We are thrilled to bits for the boys as we at the club know how much hard work goes into a chmpionship run like this. Both boys had to win five on the bounce at the top level to claim their titles.

"I'd like to thank all the coaches and supporters for their continued support, these are moments I will never forget.

"The hard training continues for Ellis and his club-mate. England boxing junior and tri-nations champion Leo Playford, as we get them ready for the Monkstown Box Bup in Dublin at the end of June."
