CLOSE MARKING AT BURTON LATIMER GALA QUEEN DANCE The daughter of the woman who crowned last year’s Gala Queen at Burton Latimer is an attendant this year. She is 18-year-old Jane Beddoes, whose home is at “Wheatcroft” Finedon Road, Burton Latimer, a production control clerk at Leicester. Last year Jane’s mother, Mrs N Beddoes, deputised for Mrs E E Barlow who was ill at the time in the crowning ceremony. This year Mrs Barlow is to perform it. At the final selection dance at Britannia WMC, Burton Latimer on Friday, Jane tied for first place with the eventual winner, Miss Barbara Ridgeway (17), of 60 Pioneer Avenue, Burton Latimer, a machinist at E K Coles and Co Ltd. The two had to dance again before Barbara was chosen as Queen. With Jane as a second attendant is Miss Lesley Betts (17), a salesgirl at Burton Latimer Co-operative Society. SAME MARKS The choice of Lesley as attendant also provided some difficulty as three other girls had the same number of marks. They danced again while the judges, Mr Ron Patterson, the Northampton Town footballer, and his wife, made their final choice. Barbara will be crowned on July 13 at a ceremony on the Council Offices lawn. The Gala Day itself is July 13. |
