The firm of Church Street Autos was commenced by Mr Stanley Firmin in premises let to him at the old Rectory in Church Street in the 1950s. From there, the business moved to garage premises in Rosebery Street. During the 1960's Church Street Autos took over the Kettering Road filling station, previously known as Coleman's Green. This site once contained the workshop of Sidney Coleman, a motor engineeer, and also accommodated some showman's caravans. This garage eventually became Prescott Motors. Church Street Autos developed a car showroom situated on the corner of Pioneer Avenue which was operative during the 1970s. In the 1980s the showroom belonged to Pole Position Cars until in 1983 it suffered a disastrous fire and did not re-open.
