Two A.T.S girls who worked together in the office of a Wellingborough leather factory have met in Oslo at the headquarters of Allied Land Forces, where they share the same office. They are Private Olive Ireson of Wellingborough and Private Joyce Newman, daughter of Mr & Mrs Newman, Shatford, Station Road Hill, Burton Latimer. Before joining the girls were on the staff of C.E. and H.B. Groome Ltd, leather dressers, Wellingborough. In Norway they are among the first contingent of A.T.S. who are serving with the Intelligence Section of the Allied Land Forces. The girls had a cordial welcome from the Norwegians and have been having lessons in Norwegian since February. Both are looking forward to making new friends among the local people. A hotel has been requisitioned in Oslo for military staff. Each girl was allowed a hundredweight of luggage, which included kit and supplies of soap and other articles that might be difficult to get in Norway. Special warm clothing will be issued if necessary and medical stores have also been transported. |
