Another Burton Soldier Dies For His Country

Private Corbutt Styles

ANOTHER BURTON SOLDIER DIES FOR HIS COUNTRY - Pte. Corbutt Styles - has been killed in action. The sad news was first communicated in a letter from Pte. Styles' comrade (Pte. A. Talbutt), Capt. W.H. Evans, in a letter says: "He was killed on the 17th inst.in the trenches, a shell bursting near him. We are awfully sorry to lose him - a quiet, steady thoroughly reliable fellow. His body has been brought back and decently buried in a British cemetery, and we shall put a cross over the grave. Please accept my deepest sympathy." Sec. Lieut. Walker, writing to his parents, said Pte. Styles was killed, with several others, by a shell. "Your son," he continues, "was a very willing and cheerful soldier; in fact, one of the best in the platoon, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We feel that his death is a distinct loss to us and the country for which he so nobly gave up his life, a loss that can never be made good."
Pte. styles enlisted on October 5th, 1915 and went to France on April 16th, 1916, and was 20 years of age.
