New Roadway Where War Memorial Stood

Roadworks in progress after removal of the War Memorial in 1962

Work is now well under way on the major improvements to the A6 at its junction with Church Street, Burton Latimer.  When completed, it will make driving conditions much easier for motorists joining the busy trunk road at this point.

The junction was originally the site of the Burton Latimer war memorial.  This was removed a few weeks ago and is now being re-erected in the yard of the town council’s offices. Instead of the triangular memorial site forming the centre of the double junction, the present work will create a simplified single junction at this point.

Church Street is being built up to give a gradual incline starting from Meeting Lane to replace he present sharp incline where Church Street joins the A6 at two points at  present. In addition the opportunity is being taken to improve the camber of the A6 here.  On the inside of the bend the roadway is to be lowered about one foot.
